Bold Strokes Books
offers LGBT fiction and non-fiction that is entertaining,
informative, provocative, at times transgressive, and always
positive and affirming. We publish a full-spectrum of Bold
Strokes category genre
fiction including romance, action, adventure,
mystery, speculative fiction, and erotica. Our goal is to
bring the best of yesterday into the future—preserving the
traditional elements of genre fiction while infusing our stories
with a modern sensibility and focus. Our general
fiction line, Bold Strokes Victory (Lesbian) and Liberty (GBT) Editions,
includes literary and popular fiction as well as non-fiction
that explore the LGBT experience in its many forms (literary,
contemporary, historical, saga) while telling strong human
stories with universal themes. Our newest line,
Bold Strokes Matinee Books,
are sharp, satisfying, quality reads for busy women who want to
take some time out for pure entertainment. The focus is on
excitement, sexual attraction, drama, and fun in a tightly
written, engaging package.
At BSB,
our editorial focus is on author development and in
creating works that define the benchmarks in LGBT publishing.
Our books are conventionally produced and distributed to markets
throughout the world. With our diverse range of

How is Bold Strokes Books different from other
LGBT
publishers?
Bold Strokes Books
is similar to other LGBT publishers in that there are no
charge backs to authors (we are not a vanity press) and we publish
LGBT-centric works of a diverse nature. We differ from some
of the other publishers in that we strive to publish books
which speak not only to the realities of our lives,
but to our dreams and fantasies.
How does Bold Strokes choose its authors?
We encourage submissions from first-time writers,
established authors, and those authors who may have had
works published five or ten years ago which have now gone
out of print. We hope to reintroduce some of those works to current
and future readers.
Does Bold Strokes have specific content criteria for the
books we publish?
Every manuscript is
judged individually on its own merits, emphasizing technical quality,
depth of character development, and uniqueness of plots. We seek to
present lesbian lives in a positive and affirming fashion. We do not
accept works involving sexual, emotional, or physical denigration nor
do we publish works in which there is an overt or covert message of
homophobia.
What is the future of Bold Strokes Books?
We hope to
establish a list of authors who regularly publish quality works
and who represent the diversity of the lesbian readership in
terms of age, ethnicity, life experiences, and reading tastes.
In addition to continuing the traditional genres noted above, we
are developing a line devoted to “general lesbian fiction,”
which is coming to mean those works which occupy a broader
canvas than that embraced by the various genre categories. It
could be said that these are life-stories, as opposed to
love-stories, although many will include a love relationship or
developing romance. |
